The second of the Schubert Song series was held in The Clothworkers Centenary Concert Hall at the University of Leeds on Wednesday evening. Preceded by a fascinating pre-concert talk by Dr George Kennaway, a stunning performance by Mary Bevan and Joseph Middleton  (made all the more special for  featuring some less well know settings) was received with rapturous applause.

Here is just one response from a member of the audience

What a marvellous evening. One of the best Lieder recitals I have heard. Mary Bevan has a thrilling voice which she used to great effect in a challenging programme of – to me – unknown, almost operatic, pieces. The rapport with Joseph Middleton was so telling. Joseph is a wonderfully accomplished and sensitive accompanist.
