Oliver Rundell

Oliver Rundell studied Music at Cambridge University, where he was Organ Scholar at Corpus Christi College, and subsequently trained at the National Opera Studio.  From 2002 to 2010 he was a full-time member of the music staff at Scottish Opera, where he worked on over thirty productions, including the Ring cycle, and conducted touring productions of Die Fledermaus and La Cenerentola.

Based in Glasgow, Oliver combines his work as resident coach in the opera school of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with a busy schedule of chamber music and conducting.

He is increasingly in demand as a trainer of youth orchestras in Scotland, and has worked with groups from Glasgow, St Andrews and Aberdeenshire.

An enthusiastic performer of contemporary music, he works regularly with Red Note and the Hebrides Ensemble.  He has conducted several premieres for the Research Ensemble and in 2010  organized a rare performance of Maurizio Kagel’s ‘Eine Brise’ for 111 cyclists.

As a pianist he has performed a previously unpublished clarinet trio by John Ireland, Messiaen’s Quatuor pour la fin du Temps, and is a founder member of the Beinn Artair piano trio.
