BBC Radio 3’s lunchtime concert puts a spotlight on the 2016/17 Leeds Lieder Festival this week, broadcasting several performances from the season with the festival’s Director, pianist Joseph Middleton. The theme of the festival was the music of Gustav Mahler, which Joseph paired with songs by some of Mahler’s inspirations and contemporaries.

Joseph is joined by Jennifer Johnston, Ruby Hughes, Gemma Lois Summerfield and James Newby for works by Mahler, Wagner, Ives, Alma Mahler and Schumann.
