2019 Leeds Lieder Young Artists
Applications now open

Following the success of last year’s inaugural scheme, we are inviting 10 duos, aged 30 years or under, to become 2019 Leeds Lieder Young Artists and immerse themselves in the Festival, with more opportunities to perform and a prize available for most promising duo.

There will be opportunities to work in masterclass with either Angelika Kirchschlager, Malcolm Martineau, Ann Murray or Amanda Roocroft, each sharing their experience of working on the international stage and exploring the special ensemble relationship of voice and piano.

Leeds Lieder Young Artists will also perform in a live-streamed concert, late-night Lieder Lounge and Schumann/Brahms study event, with additional coachings available with Richard Stokes. They will also receive free tickets to all Festival events featuring artists including; Benjamin Appl, Julius Drake, Graham Johnson, Miah Persson, Fatma Said, Nicky Spence and William Thomas.

New for 2019, a £1,000 prize will be awarded by the Schubert Institute (UK) to the duo with most potential at the conclusion of the final masterclass. The duo will also be given a lunchtime concert as part of the 2019/20 University of Leeds International Concert Series.

2019 Leeds Lieder Young Artists Application Form
Thursday 25th- Sunday 28th April 2019

Guidance for applicants:

• Duos are asked to submit a recording of three contrasting songs of their choice for consideration by the selection committee (one in German, one in English and one in another language). Please note, because of the prize offered by the Schubert Institute (UK), there should be some Schubert presented over the weekend.
• We regret we are only able to accept recordings electronically, preferably via a YouTube link, and would be eager to share successful audition recordings across our social media platforms. For this reason, video recordings are preferred although audio recordings will be accepted.
• Please return your completed application form, recording and publicity headshot, to the Festival Office by 6pm, Thurs 31 Jan 2019. Successful applicants will be asked to provide a scan/photocopy of their passport.
• Successful applicants will be notified w/c 18 Feb 2019 and must be able to attend the entire Festival. N/A’s will not be accepted, and places will be offered to a reserve duo in the case of unavailability.
• Host accommodation will be provided but Young Artists will be responsible for their own travel.
