“A masterclass in producing expressively direct and unaffected Britten” was The Guardian’s verdict on the sold-out Wigmore Hall concert featuring Mark Padmore’s performance of all five of the composer’s Canticles. It is the first time Leeds Lieder has presented a complete performance of these extraordinary works, and Leeds Town Hall provides the perfect backdrop for these five focal points of the composer’s output. Religious and secular themes are subtly blended with his distinctive sound-world to captivating effect.
