The Tenth Leeds Lieder Festival opens with a gala recital spelling out Happy Birthday Leeds Lieder in song. Star of the recital platform and past Guest of Honour Sir Thomas Allen will read poetry between songs performed by BBC New Generation Artist Ema Nikolovska and Marcus Farnsworth, Leeds Lieder favourite James Gilchrist and debutante Siobhan Stagg fresh from triumphant performances as Pamina at the Royal Opera House. The current crop of LL Young Artists will take the stage for a celebratory performance of the Serenade to Music.
