“This superb young lyric soprano’s voice only grows in breadth and beauty… Alder is an instinctive singing-actress – a natural recitalist.” (The Arts Desk)
“Middleton: the rightful heir to legendary accompanist Gerald Moore.” (Opera Magazine)
In recent years Louise Alder’s recitals at Leeds Lieder have been festival highlights. Her generosity as a performer is matched by her remarkable instrument and ability to get to the heart of the repertoire she is performing. The Guardian described her and her duo partner Joseph Middleton as “classical song’s brightest artists”, while the Telegraph recently enthused “Louise Alder. She has it all: a gleaming, clear voice, thrilling in focus right across the range, an ability to get to the heart of the song without signalling emotion in an obvious way, and a combination of commanding stage presence with an approachable human quality… her pianist Joseph Middleton, an artist every bit as fine and insightful.” Their programme tonight contrasts the finest romantic song with new works by remarkable Scottish composer Helen Grime.
