Much-loved Swedish soprano Miah Persson, an artist in her prime, makes her Leeds Lieder début in a programme which explores femininity and motherhood in the first half, before turning to her Scandinavian roots in the second. She is joined by Leeds Lieder Director Joseph Middleton to close the 2019 Festival in what will certainly be a must-see event for Lieder enthusiasts.

Programme to include:

Clara Schumann Er ist gekommen in Sturm und Regen, Liebst du um Schönheit, Liebeszauber, Warum willst du andre fragen?, Die Lorelei

Robert Schumann  Frauenliebe und –leben

Grieg  6 Songs opus 48

Sibelius  Våren flyktar hastigt, Den första kyssen, Säv, säv, susa, Svarta rosor

[Persson] ‘has added a burnish of gold to the silvery soprano that has served her so well in Mozart roles. She gives one of the most detailed and nuanced acting performances of any singer of the past decade or more…this is a near-immaculate assumption, pouring out Strauss’s soaring legato in long-breathed phrases and holding the stage with effortless charisma.’ The Sunday Times on Miah Persson

“Joseph Middleton: rightful heir to legendary accompanist Gerald Moore.”  Opera Magazine
